Homan Tops At STOH

I know what you're thinking. What is a steamroller  doing on a curling blog? Well, that's no ordinary steamroller, that's Team Homan and they have, thus far, steam rolled all comers to this point. They are on fire and it seems unlikely that they can be stopped. Talk about peaking at the right time.

I have not seen too many exciting games at the STOH so far but it is clear at this point, Homan is the team to beat.

The Crawford rink from New Brunswick is hanging in there and with any luck, will be around at the end of the week.

As expected, Team Lawton and Team Sweeting are still very much in the mix. It's been a disappointing week for Heather Smith and her Bluenosers. I've seen Heather play better than she has. I think at this point, all hope of a playoff berth is gone.

The Newfie girls got off to a great start but have faded to a 4 - 4 standing with more games to come. They will have to keep winning to keep hopes of a playoff spot alive.

And how about the Koltun rink from the Territories! I cannot help but like them even though they will not get to a playoff. But they look good...young and full of fire and just brimming with potential. The best thing that could happen to this fiery young crew is that they find a good sponsor and get themselves to a few WCT events. If they are able to play with the big girls regularly, the sky is the limit for this squad. Perhaps Parker Schnabel, from the series Gold Rush, can donate a few ounces of gold to this team and help make them golden!

I have heard it said that this year's STOH is a bit disappointing. I think we are in a bit of a transition and newer teams are coming up. Not a bad thing in the long run but it might mean a few blow outs in this years National Championship.

Rock On!
